Current Situation

The humid conditions of the tropics and plentiful water supply are ideal breeding grounds, and their presence presents an obstacle for customer satisfaction – a primary barometer for resort/hotel profitability.

Chemical solutions to control the mosquito population are used throughout the region, but these remedies are becoming increasingly less effective. Mosquitoes are becoming drug resistance, requiring increasingly high levels of product to produce the same results – dosage amounts that are often above local and regional limits.

In addition, customers are becoming more and more eco-conscious. High levels of toxic products are not earth-friendly and do not enhance the guest experience. The downstream impact on fish and plant life caused by chemical runoff is not a sustainable answer.

Solution

SCD Probiotics, a global provider of products manufactured using beneficial microorganism technology, has created a liquid concentrate capable of reducing mosquito and sand fly populations. The active ingredients in the concentrate, combined with the metabolites produced by proprietary SCD Probiotics during the fermentation process, disrupt the normal life cycle of the insects. Lab trials* have shown that after application of the product, up to 99% of mosquito larvae do not hatch within a four-day period, consequently lowering the adult population in the targeted environment. Less surviving larvae mean fewer mosquitoes to spread disease and pester resort guests – leading to increased guest satisfaction, resort profitability and bug-free vacations.
